Posted by: | CommentsHi, Square Dealers!
This weekend presents lots of opportunities for fun! We have our Earth Day / Salad Day dance on Friday. Then Saturday morning, April 21st, we'll be marching in the Big Shanty Festival parade. Assemble at 9:00 am at the Adams ballfields because the parade starts at 9:30. We'll be doing our demo dance from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm on the City Hall Stage behind the building, actually on Watts Drive. Patti Ferris is still looking for volunteers. We have very few activities that Kennesaw Parks and Recreation requires of us for the use of the hall. This is one of them! We're counting on you to sign up at class Thursday night or at the dance on Friday. Can't be at either of those events? Well, then come on down anyhow! We'll rotate dancers to give everyone a chance! Thanks in advance to Al Smith and Dan Markwood for volunteering to call for us!
Elaine Vess has offered to coordinate the upcoming demo dance spots at the Jonquil Festival event in Smyrna on April 28th and 29th. We are scheduled for Saturday, 12:00-12:30 pm, and Sunday, 12:30-1:00 pm, at the Smyrna Community Circle. So far, we have 3 folks signed up — that's Jim, Karen, and Elaine! We're still hoping to get a square for each day using our signup sheets on the front table at class and the dance. If we do not get a square by by the end of the Friday dance, we'll need to cancel. Faye & Mike Rooks are both feeling better and have offered to cheer us on, even though they aren't up to dancing just yet. Please sign up, call Elaine, or contact one of the officers — thanks!
Both the Big Shanty Festival and the Jonquil Festival are chances to recruit students for our next class in September. Please help us make the most of these opportunities to help KSD grow!
Here are a few reminders for all club members:
- All club members are expected to bring a dish for the refreshment table and pick up the dish at the end of the dance.
- The folks on kitchen duty bring beverages as their contributions and they arrive by 7:00 pm to begin setup of the refreshment table.
- The refreshment table is closed at 9:30 to allow cleanup time before the last tip.
- While the club utensils need to be cleaned and stored, cleaning of club member dishes is not expected.
- If something is left behind after the dance, we usually take it home with us and bring it back at the next event (class or dance). Please let us know if you're missing something.

Posted by: | CommentsHi, Square Dealers!
Did you have a lovely Easter weekend? We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather as much as we did! This coming weekend has three events all about students. With one graduation and two half-way dances, you should have plenty of opportunity to encourage new dancers!
Once we put the Big Shanty Festival in the "Upcoming Events" chart, we realized that you won't have enough time to travel to Lad's "n" Lassies after the demo dance. We've changed the visitation to Wheel Arounds, who are also having Earth Day.
Speaking of the Big Shanty Festival on Saturday, April 21st, we were wondering if Patti Farris has heard from you. Both the parade (9:00 setup) and the demo dance (5:00-5:30) still need volunteers. Hey, Patti — count us in! Come on, KSD — we can't do it alone!
We have not heard from anyone who wants to coordinate the April 28th Jonquil Festival event in Smyrna. We have reserved demo dance spots on Saturday, 12:00-12:30 pm, and Sunday, 12:30-1:00 pm, at the Smyrna Community Circle. If we do not get a square by our next dance on April 20, we'll need to cancel. Please reply in email or call one of the officers to say you're interested!
Please keep Shawn and Xiomara Butler in your prayers, as Shawn's father passed away last week.
Get a refresher course by being an Angel at our PLUS CLASS on Thursday nights!

Hi, Square Dealers! We hope you enjoyed the dance with Gary Shoemake as much as we did -- 171 dancers strong -- wow! The MASDA Dance was also a fun time, but we're sorry to report that KSD did not win any visitation awards for 2011. Hopefully, 2012 will have better results. Reminder: we are NOT dancing on Friday, 4/6. Faye Rooks has been off the dance floor due to a bout of diverticulitis. Please keep her in your prayers. Patti Farris is still collecting volunteers for the Big Shanty Festival. She needs parade people for Saturday, April 21st (setup at 9:00 am, parade at 9:30) and demo dancers for performances that same day from 5:00-5:30 pm. Call or email Patti to get involved! The following weekend, April 28th, is the Jonquil Festival in Smyrna. We have been invited to demo dance on Saturday, 12:00-12:30 pm, and Sunday, 12:30-1:00 pm, at the Smyrna Community Circle. We're looking for a volunteer to coordinate folks and, of course, dancers! Please reply in email or call one of the officers to say you're interested! Our PLUS CLASS Angels are the best -- and the class is doing very well with their help. Come join the fun on Thursday nights! UPCOMING EVENTS: Apr 6 - NO KSD Dance!
