• We will workshop PLUS moves from 7:30pm-8pm for our students to begin their “plus” journey.
• Dance will be basic and mainstream 8:00-9:30 pm with John Norris and Ray Mauney calling.

We had a super turnout for our Chinese New Year dance!  The refreshment table was a wonderful change of pace.  What was our favorite?  Has to be the Moo Shu Pork, because we couldn't stop laughing at the Moo Shoe Pork sign!  Thanks for the giggles, Cari — and for the tasty entree, too! 

Thanks to all who brought used dance clothes to the class last Thursday!  The students had a lot of fun shopping and the club members enjoyed it, too.  If you really want to get rid of unsold items, please remember the MASDA Callers & Cuers Memorial Dance also has a clothing sale.  Contact Mike or Marcia Massey to donate your unwanted items before the March 3rd event.

Reminder:  there will be no class tomorrow night, January 26.

NO CLASS ON JANUARY 26 – NEXT WEEK….RETURN FOR CLASS ON FEBRUARY 2, 2012 AT 7:30PM

Zoom Into 2012, our combination dance with Hotlanta Squares, was a definite success!  The calling was outstanding and the cues swept us off our feet.  The refreshments were tasty and plentiful.  Even though KSD was not well-represented, those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Cherokee Squares were blown away by KSD visitors at their halfway dance:  Cherokee Squares 31, KSD 41.  Just awesome!

This is a reminder to bring your used dance clothes to the sale Thursday, January 19th during class night.  Each person is responsible for the sale of his or her clothing.  This includes marking the items with the owner's name, the article's size, and the price, setting up the clothes in the room at the back left corner of the hall (the start of the food line), collecting the funds, and taking home any unsold items.  If you want to donate the clothes to the club, let Cari Edwards know and she'll arrange to have someone oversee those items during the sale.

Reminder:  there will be no class night next week, January 26, as the hall is not available.

Mark your calendars now for our 2012 Class Graduation on Thursday, February 9th, including the ceremony and fun night rolled into one.  While you are at it, you can also pencil in the class dance with guest callers on Thursday, February 16th.  We look forward to your support for our class of about 22 graduating students.  Both events are at our usual Ben Robertson Community Center 7:30-9:30.  See you there!

The pictures taken by Sara at the Christmas Dance this year are lost. We are not entirely certain as to what happened to them in trying to transfer them for posting. They were on this disk then disappeared. It is unfortunate but these things happen. We have tried our best to recover them but nothing has been accomplished in this effort.

Hi, Square Dealers!

Our Halfway Dance was a blast!  The class members were really up for it and danced well the whole night!  We hope you enjoyed yourselves, too!

From the Lost & Found Department, we have a chip bowl left at the last dance and an umbrella left some time ago.  Both items are at the hall, along with your extension cord, Edyie.  See Karen to reclaim your things at the next dance or class.

Reminder:  Cherokee Squares has their Halfway Dance on January 13th.  Many of our class members are going.  Contact Julia if you would like to caravan to the hall.  

Our Zoom Into 2012 Combo Dance is this Saturday.  Please bring soup, chili, casseroles, desserts, etc. to the dance and plan on eating around 7:00 pm.  There will be plenty of electrical plugs to keep things warm for those dancing in the first session.

And just because KSD loves a good party, we having another class dance on February 16th, the next Thursday.  We're inviting other class members in the area to join us and we would love for our club members to support and angel this dance.  We're having guest callers, so it should be a really fun time for everyone.  Be a jewel and help our class sparkle!

We hope you enjoyed our wonderful New Year's Dance!  Special thanks go to Edyie and Wayne Hawthorne, Sara Cole, Cari and Don Edwards, Pam Swartz and Paul York for the fabulous decorations, both in the main hall and in the refreshment area!  Thanks to Mike Massey for the great pictures!  And thanks to everyone who helped with clean-up, especially to Patti Farris who totally gave blood, sweat, and tears for the effort!    As we have come to expect, Ray, Bob, and Rita presented us with awesome dancing and the smiles in the pictures tell the whole story!  Thanks to everyone for bringing in the new year with style, grace, and fun!!!

We hope you had a lovely Christmas filled with friends and family sharing the joy of the season!

Unfortunately, neither Julia Smith nor Mike Massey were able to extract our Christmas Dance pictures from the camera's memory card and they do not know the reason for the problems.  They have one or two more ideas to try and promise to keep us posted on their progress. 

Just to let you know, we sent a $100 donation in the club's name as a contribution to Joe Stahl's funeral expenses.  Please keep his family in your prayers.  Please also keep Bill and Julie Jarrett in your prayers, as Bill's mother, Beatrice Jarrett Clemmons, passed away yesterday. 

Our New Year's Dance committee, Cari, Edyie, Sara, and Pam, have great plans for the New Year's Dance!  Let them know if you would like to help.  We're also looking for some door prizes.  Contact Jim as soon as possible if you have contributions.

Please turn in all visitation certificates to Heather Lyons or any club officer.  They must be in Heather's hands no later than our January 6th dance so they can be submitted to MASDA by the deadline.  And speaking of MASDA, congratulations to Mike and Marcia who are serving for another year as MASDA presidents!

Flyers are now available for the Smoky Mountain Ball being held Thursday through Saturday, March 8, 9, and 10, 2012.  This is an annual event for Square Dealers to Gatlinburg, where our own Ray Mauney will be calling, along with several other callers, cuers, and a line instructor.  Flyers for this dance are on the front table along with our Zoom Into 2012 Combo Dance on January 14th, 2012. 

We have our class graduation in February.  If you would like to help with the festivities, meet with Julia at 7:00 pm this Thursday, 12/29, right before class starts.  If you want to help, but can't make this meeting, email Julia at squaredancer@heretohost.com to volunteer.

Thank you all for a wonderful Christmas Dance!  Thanks to Ray and Anne for the great dancing and, of course, to Santa for cute pictures with Elf Sara's assistance!  The decorations were lovely and the refreshment table was plentiful and tasty!  The visitors were very complementary of our hospitality and all around good time!  What an awesome way to celebrate the season! 

By now, most of you have probably heard about Joe Stahl's tragic death.  If you remember Joe, please do share some fond memories with his family and keep them in your prayers.

We are still hoping that someone will provide a flyer for the Snowbird Dance or the Smoky Mountain Ball.  If you know the event coordinator for either dance, please let us know.  We'll gladly share the info with everyone. 

There are flyers for our Zoom Into 2012 Combo Dance on the front table.  Please pick them up and share them when you visit.  We'd like to have a great turnout!

Cari Edwards, Edyie Hawthorne, Sara Cole, and Pam Swartz have collaborated on plans for the New Year's Dance.  If you would like to help, please let them know.  From the sounds of it, we're going to have a fun evening!
